Mystery Shopping in Oman

Trained shoppers measure what your customers actually receive, scored against the standard you published, in every governorate of the Sultanate.

In short

What is mystery shopping, and does Quantum Gulf Marketing run it in Oman?

Mystery shopping is a research method in which trained researchers visit a business as ordinary customers, follow an agreed scenario, and score the experience against the standard the business has published. Quantum Gulf Marketing runs mystery shopping programmes across the Sultanate of Oman, in all eleven governorates, and across the wider GCC through our Dubai partners. We have operated in Oman for more than ten years and have delivered mystery shopping for banks, fuel retailers, electronics brands and retail chains here. The output is a scored, evidenced record of what your customers actually received, branch by branch, rather than what your process documents say they should have received.

A scorecard you can act on.

Every visit resolves into a weighted score across the dimensions you decided matter. The plate below is illustrative, showing the structure rather than a real client result.

What we measure

The dimensions of a service visit.

A scenario is built from your own service standard, so the scorecard reflects the promises you already make rather than a generic template.

01

Approach and greeting

Whether the customer was acknowledged, how quickly, and by whom. Timed from arrival, not estimated afterwards.

Timed
02

Needs identification

Whether staff established what the customer actually wanted before recommending anything, and which questions were asked.

Observed
03

Product and policy knowledge

Accuracy of what was said. This is where regulated sectors most often lose points, because a confident wrong answer scores worse than an honest referral.

Accuracy
04

Cross-sell and close

Whether a relevant next step was offered, and whether the customer left knowing what happens next.

Behaviour
05

Environment and compliance

Cleanliness, signage, queue management, and the mandatory items your sector or regulator requires to be displayed or said.

Evidenced
06

Wait and resolution time

Recorded against the clock at each stage, so a slow branch can be separated from an understaffed hour.

How it runs

From standard to scorecard.

Stage 01

Build the scenario

We start from your published service standard and turn it into a scenario a shopper can follow and an assessor can score without interpretation.

Stage 02

Brief and calibrate

Shoppers are briefed on the scenario and calibrated against worked examples, so two shoppers scoring the same visit reach the same number.

Stage 03

Field the wave

Visits are distributed across days, hours and outlets to your quota. Evidence is captured at the time of visit, not reconstructed later.

Stage 04

Validate and report

Every questionnaire is checked before it enters the dataset. Results come back as league tables plus the dimension detail that tells you what to fix.

Coverage

All eleven governorates.
Not just the capital.

Fieldwork that stops at Muscat is not national coverage. Our team works every governorate of the Sultanate, which is what makes a sample representative rather than convenient.

Questions

Common questions

What is mystery shopping?
Mystery shopping is a research method where trained researchers visit or contact a business as ordinary customers, follow a defined scenario, and score what happened against the standard the business has published. It measures delivered service rather than reported service.
How many visits do we need?
It depends on how many outlets you have and how confident you need to be about each one. A branch network being measured at branch level usually needs several visits per branch per wave so that a single unusual shift does not decide a manager's score. We size this with you before quoting.
Do shoppers make a purchase?
Only when the scenario needs it. A fuel forecourt or a restaurant visit normally requires a real transaction, a bank branch enquiry often does not. Purchase costs are quoted separately from fieldwork so you can see them.
Can visits be run in Arabic?
Yes. Our shoppers are Omani and resident expatriate, and visits are conducted in Arabic or English to match your customer base. Reports are delivered in English by default and in Arabic on request.
How do you stop shoppers from being recognised?
We rotate shoppers across waves, control how often any individual visits the same location, and match shopper profiles to the customer type the scenario calls for. For small networks this rotation is planned at the design stage.
What do we actually receive?
A scored questionnaire per visit with the evidence attached, outlet and regional league tables, the dimension level breakdown of where points were lost, and the raw data. Findings are written for the person who has to fix the problem.
