Qualitative Research

The methods that explain behaviour: groups, depths, accompanied visits and ethnography, designed around a decision rather than a topic.

THEMESEVIDENCEWHY
In short

What is qualitative research, and does QGM provide it in Oman?

Qualitative research explains behaviour. Instead of counting how many people do something, it establishes why they do it, what language they use for it, and what would change their mind. Quantum Gulf Marketing runs the full qualitative range in Oman: focus groups, in-depth interviews, paired discussions and accompanied shopping, moderated in Arabic or English by researchers working in the respondent's own dialect. Qualitative work is strongest when it precedes a quantitative study, because it tells you which questions are worth asking of a thousand people.

Questions

Common questions

When should qualitative come first?
Whenever you are not certain you know the right questions. Fielding a thousand interviews around the wrong hypothesis is the most expensive mistake in research.
Can qualitative findings be projected?
No, and we will not present them as if they can. Qualitative explains and generates. Numbers come from a survey.
How do you avoid professional respondents?
Participation history is tracked and enforced at recruitment. Someone who was in a group last month is not in this one.
Do you moderate in Arabic?
Yes, and we analyse in the original language. Translating before analysing loses the part that made the research worth doing.
Can we watch?
Yes, in person or by stream, with participant consent agreed at recruitment.
How long does a qualitative study take?
Typically three to six weeks from brief to debrief, with recruitment usually the longest stage rather than the fieldwork itself.
